UV-Vis Spectroscopy
Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy is an analytical technique used to gather the absorbance spectra of a sample in solution. What is being observed is the absorbance of light energy. These photons of light excite electrons from the ground state to the first singlet excited state, this is the energy absorbed. This then can become a measurement of how much light the sample has absorbed as opposed to how much light was able to pass through the sample.

IR Spectroscopy
IR spectroscopy focuses on the vibrations found in molecules. When considering compounds in chemistry lik, carbon monoxide for example, the bond between these elements can be seen as a spring. By using infrared light, IR spectroscopy can be used to find and enhance the frequency of these "springs" or bonds in order to determine what functional groups are in a compound.

Fluorometry
Fluorescence spectroscopy, or fluorimetry, is a type of luminescence where light emission is the result. In fluorescence, photons of light elevate an electron to an excited state. This now excited electron experiences rapid energy loss through vibrations, followed by a photon emission from the lowest level singlet excited state. This emission is given of as visible light.
